the eiders have been invited
to play a short set of 3 to 5 songs at the agora
cocktail lounge in newcastle, as part of bbc one's 'john
peel day' this thursday 13 october. bands around the country are
playing songs to honour the late ground-breaking dj. a live cd of the
event is planned to raise money for one of john's favourite charities amnesty
international. please come and support us!

paddy and guy have been
asked to record 2 tracks for 'angels of the north 2005' a new compilation album
put out by rgf records.
so far they have recorded two new original tracks--'nothing new' and an
instrumental called 'hoi an rain'. they plan to re-record 'return to
paradise' next week with cellist kath. candidates for the compilation also
include 'sixth street serenade' and 'make you smile'.
local legend pete dodds has been active in promoting the band, helping the band to get gigs on both sides of the river tyne. check the live section for updates.

the band has just put
together a new demo e.p. called 'the eiderdowns'. it features the covers,
'ain't no sunshine,' 'my brother jake,' 'fire & rain', 'big yellow taxi' and
'the water is wide' as well as the original 'looks like rain.'
although very proud of their work, they are not looking to sell the c.d. at present, but are printing a limited number for promotional purposes, namely getting gigs! they hope to record a full c.d. of new songs, both covers & originals, soon.
there are no gigs at present, but the band has been very active, playing open mic nights at the blue bell in jesmond vale and at the green mandolin in felling.

the original lineup of
'looks like rain' has broken up due to personal differences. andy,
their former lead singer, will continue on as 'looks like rain' and honour all of the
remaining gigs. guy and paddy will continue playing together as 'the
eiderdowns.'
